Ron Reagan Supports Stem Cell Research Why Cant Bush

prochoice.org: "Recent pleas to allow full funding for stem-cell research touched the hearts and minds of many lawmakers in Congress. 58 senators - representing both political parties, asked President Bush to rethink his policy for funding stem-cell research. Which would allow embryonic stem cell research to be funded with federal dollars. President Bush still stubbornly refuses to change his policy. In - 2001, President Bush banned funding for research on all new embryonic stem-cell lines. Scientists report that very few of the existing stem-cell lines are useful for research or even available to scientists. As a result, Bushs policy has shackled development of new treatments for diseases such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons, cancer, and diabetes. Click on this link to ask Bush to allow this research."

I really don't understand why Bush is so against this research, they have already proved the skin sample and things they use to do this are never human babies Read it and tell me?

We're talking about a man (Bush) who also was against covering birth control pills in the White House's health plans. Yes, those employees answer to Bush, but it is ultimately owned by the People, as their income is generated by our monies.

However, in regards to stem cell research, I understand that he was swayed pretty heavily by religious groups (because we have separation between church and state!), but to remain "politically friendly," he allowed reserach to continue only with the existing stem cell lines. But truly, if he/they refuse to fund stem cell research for the reason that it would possibly promote an "unethical" future, then they should abolish the right to visit in vitro clinics as well. After all, most of the embryonic stem cell lines are generated from *fertilized* eggs that if not donated would otherwise be thrown away (which happens to most couples who pay visits). I know plenty of religious people who are against stem cell research in the in vitro industry, and in the talk of hypocrisy, I do not understand that.

Anyway, my two cents.
